Khandagiri caves & Udayagiri caves are located on two adjacent hills at Khandagiri in the smart city of Bhubaneswar. Pandava Bakhara Cave, Cuttack

Pandava Bakhara is an old cave that is associated with mythological stories. It is located in the Chandaka forest, 31 km distance from Cuttack City and 38 km from Bhubaneswar. According to local people, the Pandavas spent a few days here during their exile in this rock shelter hence the name Pandava Bakhara. The distance from the ground level to the rock shelter is about 1 km, and the road to reach the top is a bit difficult. A few years ago, a research team found traces of human habitation on the hill, which they said was 3500 to 4000 years old. 

The oldest artefacts found in these Pandav hills are believed to be from the Stone Age and Copper Age. There are many caves in the Pandava Bakhra Hill named Pandava Bakhara, Dabarkhola, Tiger Cave, Chanchlani Cave, Kalia Taila Cave, Narahari Cave and Anahat Cave.

Balda Cave, Koraput

Panchu Pandav Caves is a historical monument of the 5th or 6th century A.D. located in the Badagada area, Bhubaneswar. There are five caves here. Legend states that the Panchu Pandava brothers (Arjuna, Bhima, Nakula, Sahadeva, and Yudhisthira) stayed in these caves during their Mahabharata-era exile (Vanvas). An almost identical legend is associated with the Panchu Pandav Temple in Ganeswarpur, 50 km north-west of here. Out of the five caves, two are empty, and Lord Shiva is being worshipped in the last cave. ASI is developing the premises of this cave to facilitate this ancient monument and attract more visitors. Balda Cave is located on a hill surrounded by green forest, 66 km distance from Koraput city. The top of this plateau is said to be flat, where 05 football matches can be played simultaneously. A beautiful pond is on the plain near this BALDA CAVE, which is the most exciting point of the place. Donger Dei is the main deity of the cave worship by the local people. 

Balda Maa Nageswari Cave Yatra is celebrated every year in the month of Chaitra, and local pilgrims come here to celebrate it. It is one of the best places in Koraput district for nature lovers and trekking. Balda Cave is a unique cave in Odisha. There is a hole at the top of the cave, which tourists can enjoy by going inside. One can pitch a tent at Balda Hill station and spend the night.
