Talcher is located on the bank of the River Brahmani and is 15 km from Angul town and 65 km from Dhenkanal. The fertilizers plant of Talcher is the largest coal-based plant in India as well as in the world. Previously It was the capital of ex ruler of Talcher till 1948. Talcher is one of the fastest-growing industrial and mining complexes in the country. The coal-based thermal power plant at Talcher, Heavy water plant of Atomic energy commission at Vikrampur. Rani Park, which extends over an area of 64 sq km is another attraction of this place. A rock-cut Bishnu image lying in a sleeping poster at the left bank of Brahmani in Saranga village is only 4 km from Talcher. The area is a noted for coal mines and several industries.
