Champanath temple is located at Champeswar, 20 km distance from Badamba and 90 km from Cuttack City. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Champanath in this temple. According to the locals, this Champanath Dev temple is about 1000 years old. Generally, all Hindu temples face east, while this temple faces west. According to history, Lord Shiva was first worshipped here under a Champa tree; hence, it is called Champanath. Later, a temple was built in Champeswar village and dedicated to the Lord.
The priests of this Champanath temple are not Brahmins. Instead, priests from other castes are worshipping in this temple as per tradition. Another attraction of this place is the tortoises and fish in the pond on the temple premises, which is very old.
