Lalitgiri Buddhist Complex, Cuttack

Lalitgiri has 85 km from Bhubaneswar and 55 km from Cuttack. It is one of the earliest Buddhist complexes, dating back to the 1st century AD. Several votive stupas and stone stupas are located on the top of the rugged. Sandstone hillock dominates the greenery around. The sculptures shed nearby display excavated images, Thrusting light on the various schools of Buddhist art. The discovery of golden caskets in 1985 containing sacred bone relics probably of Tathagat enhances the Mathura school of art. Once upon a time, it was a Buddhist university called Puspagiri. The different parts of students like japan, china and Indonesia etc. come to this place learning. Lalitgiri has a Buddhist Museum, which displays is a large number of Mahayana sculptures consisting of colossal Buddha figures, Boddhisattva images, statues of Tara, Jambhala and others.
