Rushi (Cave)Gumpha is one of the most mysterious caves in Odisha. It is located amid the greenery and forestry in the Hemgir forest range and about 50 km distance from Sundargarh. According to local people, this cave is about 6 km in length. The name “Rishi Caves” is derived from the term “Rishi” or sage, referring to the ascetic lifestyle of the monks who inhabited these caves. There is a Shiva lingam here, where water flows from the cave throughout the year.
An Amazing thing about this place is that there is a Shiva Linga inside the Rushi Gumpha. This Linga was kept and worshipped by the sages from ancient times, and now it is worshipped as Lord Jharjhareswar Baba. The main festival of this Shiva temple is the Magh Mela. A large number of devotees come here to observe this Mela. These caves are an important tourist and heritage site in Odisha, attracting history enthusiasts and pilgrims alike.
