Bhima Bhoi Samadhi Pitha is situated in Khailiapali village and is about 16 km distance from Sonepur. The place is named Bhima Bhoi’s Samadhi Pitha after him, as poet Bhima Bhoi’s Samadhi is here. Bhima Bhoi was born at Jatasinga near Subalaya of Subarnapur district. Khaliapali became the center of Mahima Dharma in the late 19th century, from where poet-philosophers composed hundreds of books and preached Mahima Dharma. It was given a facelift by the joint effort of the Bhima Bhoi Samadhi Pitha trust, Khailiapali, and the Sonepur district administration. Santhakabi Bhima Bhoi has written many books about Mahima Dharma. Suti Chintamani is one of the best books. Santhakabi Bhima Bhoi Samadhi Pitha is a famous temple near Sonepur.
Only the Kathaui (wooden footwear) used by Mahatma Bhima Bhoi, covered with silver plates, is worshipped daily by the saints residing there. Bhima Bhoi died in 1895 A.D. when he was hardly 45 years of age. A Samadhi temple was constructed at Khaliapali after his death in his sacred memory. Magha Mela Utsav is the main festival of this place and opens the main temple on that day. A large number of followers of Mahima Dharma are staying here in the Ashram and observe daily worship.
