The Pataneswari temple is located at a distance of 5 km from the Sambalpur Bus stand and near the Maa Samaleswari temple. Goddess Kali is worshipped in the temple of Pataneswari and the sister of Samaleswari. In the Pataneswari temple premises, Navagraha, Hanuman, Aranapurna, Bhairavi, Narasimha, Maa Durga, Vaishnavi Devi, Baraha, Maa Kamala and Maa Mangal are worshipped. The temple was built by Balaram Dev, the first Chauhan ruler of Sambalpur, in the last part of the 16th century.
