Maa Vaishno Devi Temple is located about 15 km distance from Nayagarh city and 10 km from Odagaon. At the top of the Jamukana hills, Maa Vaishno Devi is being worshipped in a 180-foot-long cave. The idol of Maa Vaishno Devi weighs around 18 kg. The temple in Nayagarh looks quite similar to the Maa Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu. Lakhs of devotees had gathered to witness the consecration of Maa from January 31 to February 02. It is the second temple of Maa Vaishno Devi in Odisha after the temple in Rourkela.
History of Nayagarh Vaishno Devi Temple
According to the locals, a long time ago, Maa Banadurga was being worshipped on Jamukona hill. Maa Vaishno Devi temple was planned reportedly after a person directed the deity herself in his dream. The construction of the temple began on a hilltop on more than 16 acres of land with the help of the nearby village/panchayat.
In addition, a couple of small temples—Maa Bharavi Temple and Mahavir Temple—, as well as an Ardhakumari, Jagyan Mandap, and Bhoga & Arati Mandap, have also been built around the Maa Vaishno Devi temple to turn it into a tourist destination. A park and a swimming pool have also been built on the hill to allow the devotees and tourists to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. Visitors will have to climb up for about one km to reach the temple after parking their vehicles at the parking zone. One can visit the Sulia Dam, Raghunath Jew Temple, and Ladukeswar Temple, which are close to the location. Maa Vaishno Devi Mandir is one of the famous temples near Nayagarh Town.
