Varahi Temple is located at Chaurashi on the bank of the Prachi River; this temple is dedicated to Goddess Varahi and is 10 km distance from Nimapada and about 47 km from Puri. It is dedicated to Goddess Varahi, a powerful and fierce incarnation of Goddess Shakti and one of the Sapta Matrikas (seven mother goddesses) in Hindu tradition. The site of Varahi Temple is only half a km from Amareswar. The goddess Varahi is the enshrined idol of the temple. The Barahi temple belongs to the 10th century AD.
The height of the temple is 25 feet, like the Khakhara style, and it is one of the oldest temples of Odisha. The walls are embellished with figures of divinities, decorative motifs, and other secular themes. The Barahi Devi Temple of the Saptamatruka and Chamundi is common in Odisha. Independent shrines of Varahi are extremely rare. Nimapada Barahi Mandir is one of the famous temples in the Puri District.
- The idol is seated in lalitasana posture on a buffalo, holding a fish in one hand and a bowl in another — symbolising her tantric power. She has a boar face, reflecting her form as an aspect of Lord Varaha (an avatar of Vishnu), merged with Shakti energy.
- The presence of tantric iconography and architectural style points to its importance as a Shakta-Tantric site in medieval Odisha.
- Maa Varahi is worshipped as a tantric deity and is believed to be highly powerful and benevolent.
- She is revered especially for protection from evil forces, spiritual empowerment, and healing powers.
- The temple is a site of tantric sadhana, especially during Amavasya (new moon), Navratri, and Magha Mela.
