Dasaswamedh Ghat is located on the bank of the holy river Baitarani in the district of Jajpur. Adjacent to this Ghata is the famous Saptamatruka temple, Sidha Vinayak temple, Jagannath temple, Savitri temple, Maa Laxmi temple and Shiva temple. So this place is a holy place for all Hindus. The main festival of the place is the Baruni Snana, which is held every twelve years to see a large number of devotees from the local and outside the district.
The history of this place is that King Jajati Kheshori made a huge Jagyan in the same place. So the name Jajapur comes from this word. Dasaswamedh Ghat has a direct connection with history at the time of King Jajati, who made a big Jagyan at this place. Dasaswamedh Ghata Maa Baitarani is one of the popular famous Temples in Jajpur, Odisha.
- In the 11th century CE, King Jajati Keshari of the Somavanshi dynasty performed the Dashashwamedha Yagna (a ritual involving the sacrifice of ten horses) at this site.
- This grand Vedic ritual was conducted to establish his supremacy and seek divine blessings, reinforcing Jajpur’s reputation as a sacred place.
- The ghat remains an important site for religious rituals, including Baruni Snana, a sacred bath festival held every 12 years.
- The Maa Biraja Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga in her Biraja form, is one of the most revered temples near the Dashashwamedh Ghat.
