History of Langaleswar Hara Parbati Mandir
The temple’s name, “Langaleswar,” derives from the Odia word “Langala,” meaning plough. According to history, during the Dwapara Yuga, Lord Shiva transformed his trident into a plough to cultivate 1,600 acres of barren land, an area now known as “Solasa Pentha.” This act symbolises Shiva’s role as a patron of agriculture and the working class. A unique feature is the presence of a bull idol named Basua, believed to have assisted Lord Shiva in his ploughing endeavour, seated before the temple. The Shiva Linga is enshrined deep within the soil, adding to the site’s mystique. Devotees from Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand visit the temple, mainly during Maha Shivaratri. The temple is also associated with healing rituals; it’s believed that consuming “Paduka” and practising “Adhia” at the shrine can cure chronic ailments.
